“… although the word ‘inspirational’ is overused in everyday life, Shamshad’s work on the page and in person truly does claim that status, she is a wonderful role-model for young people who are starting to write themselves.”
“Shamshad is quick to grasp the strategic needs of an organisation and translate these into imaginative, practical solutions. She understands the wider purpose of our projects and constantly surprises with smart, engaging programmes to deliver the project. She charts a sensitive, innovative, inclusive path with her project partners. This always results in a project delivering far more than we ever expected at the start. “
Shamshad works with individuals and organisations using creative writing and coaching skills to empower and inspire. She pioneered and ran ‘Hard Rain Poetry’, a monthly local community creative writing and performance forum for over 7 years.
Shamshad’s poetry collection “Megalomaniac” is published by Salt Publishing (2007) and has been the set text on the English degree at Lancaster University. She has co-edited two anthologies of poetry, written and presented for BBC radio. She has featured on The Verb and at Ledbury, Ilkley and international Literature Festivals. Her work explores themes including human rights, love, power and identity. She has collaborated with directors, musicians, deaf signers and beatboxers. Shamshad has run workshops for universities, survivors of domestic violence and community groups. She co-wrote/directed The Moonwatcher a multimedia show that toured North West theatres (produced by The Horse and Bamboo Theatre, Feb-March 2018)).
